About Burgerworld
Burgerworld is a long, mellow, maneuverable right located in the north of the Mentawai, near the area known as Playgrounds, off the coast of Siberut. Unlike many of the heavy, tubular waves of the archipelago, Burgerworld offers a more relaxed and fun alternative, perfect for flowing and practicing maneuvers. It's known for working especially when there's little swell or when conditions aren't so perfect at the barreling spots, which makes it a lifesaver on tough days or a perfect wave for transitional surfing.
Local knowledge
The reef here is more forgiving than the heavy Playgrounds-area waves, but it's still live coral that gets shallow on the inside at lower tides, so expect cuts and the odd urchin if you put a foot down. The main hazard is the channel current pushing along the reef on bigger fills, plus boat traffic — Burgerworld is a popular charter and resort backup spot, so the lineup and the anchorage can get busy and chaotic.
This is a boat-only wave in the northern Playgrounds zone off Siberut, accessed by charter boat or a speedboat run from a nearby resort or camp. The boats anchor in the channel on the shoulder; paddle in from there and sit on the peak, and use that same channel to exit so you're not scraping back over the reef. Time your sessions around mid-to-high tide for the easiest, safest entry and exit.
A standard performance shortboard or a step-up groveler is ideal — this is a soft, maneuverable right, so bring something you can throw around and that paddles into smaller, less-than-perfect swell. On the rare bigger day a slightly longer step-up helps with the longer walls, but you don't need any guns here; save those for the nearby barreling reefs.

Surfing in Mentawai

This remote archipelago of more than 70 islands sits off the west coast of Sumatra, fully exposed to raw Indian Ocean swell, and it has earned its reputation as one of the most concentrated, high-quality wave zones on Earth.
✈️Getting there
All routes run through Padang, the port city in West Sumatra. Fly into Padang's Minangkabau International Airport (PDG), usually via Jakarta, or via Kuala Lumpur or Singapore on regional carriers.
🛵Getting around
The Mentawai are about boats, not roads. Once you arrive, your daily transport to the waves is by boat — either the liveaboard itself or the resort's tenders and speedboats running surfers out to the breaks.

The Mentawai are equatorial, hot and humid year-round, with water warm enough for boardshorts or a thin top (roughly 27–29°C). There's no real winter — just wetter and drier patterns.
