About Burgerworld
Burgerworld es una derecha larga, suave y muy maniobrable ubicada en el norte de las Mentawai, cerca de la zona conocida como Playgrounds, frente a la costa de Siberut. A diferencia de muchas de las olas potentes y tubulares del archipiélago, Burgerworld ofrece una alternativa más relajada y divertida, perfecta para surfear con fluidez y practicar maniobras. Es conocida por funcionar especialmente cuando hay poco swell o cuando las condiciones no son tan perfectas en los spots de barrel, lo que la convierte en una salvación en los días difíciles o en una ola ideal para un surf de transición.
Local knowledge
El arrecife aquí es más indulgente que las olas pesadas de la zona de Playgrounds, pero sigue siendo coral vivo que se queda poco profundo en el interior con mareas bajas, así que espera cortes y algún que otro erizo si apoyas un pie en el fondo. El principal peligro es la corriente del canal que empuja a lo largo del arrecife con mareas más llenas, además del tráfico de embarcaciones: Burgerworld es un spot de respaldo popular para chárters y resorts, por lo que el lineup y el fondeadero pueden estar muy concurridos y caóticos.
Esta es una ola accesible solo en barco, en la zona norte de Playgrounds frente a Siberut, a la que se llega en barco chárter o en lancha rápida desde un resort o camp cercano. Las embarcaciones fondean en el canal, en el hombro de la ola; entra remando desde allí y siéntate en el pico, y usa ese mismo canal para salir y no tener que rascar de vuelta sobre el arrecife. Programa tus sesiones en torno a la marea media-alta para una entrada y salida más fácil y segura.
Una shortboard de rendimiento estándar o una groveler step-up es lo ideal: esta es una derecha suave y maniobrable, así que trae algo que puedas mover con facilidad y que pague bien en swells pequeños o imperfectos. En los días puntuales en que llega algo más de tamaño, una tabla ligeramente más larga ayuda en las paredes más largas, pero no necesitas ninguna gun aquí; guárdalas para los arrecifes de barrel cercanos.

Surfing in Mentawai
Full Mentawai surf guide →If there's one name that makes surfers go quiet and start saving, it's the Mentawai. This remote archipelago of more than 70 islands sits off the west coast of Sumatra, fully exposed to raw Indian Ocean swell, and it has earned its reputation as one of the most concentrated, high-quality wave zones on Earth.
✈️Getting there
All routes run through Padang, the port city in West Sumatra. Fly into Padang's Minangkabau International Airport (PDG), usually via Jakarta, or via Kuala Lumpur or Singapore on regional carriers.
🛵Getting around
The Mentawai are about boats, not roads. Once you arrive, your daily transport to the waves is by boat — either the liveaboard itself or the resort's tenders and speedboats running surfers out to the breaks.

The Mentawai are equatorial, hot and humid year-round, with water warm enough for boardshorts or a thin top (roughly 27–29°C). There's no real winter — just wetter and drier patterns.
