About Padang Padang
Padang Padang ist einer der bekanntesten Surfspots auf Bali und wird von vielen als die "Pipeline" Indonesiens angesehen. Diese kraftvolle, röhrenförmige Linkswelle bricht perfekt über ein Riff und bietet eine kurze, intensive und hoch technische Welle. Es ist eine Welle für erfahrene Surfer, mit einem herausfordernden Take-off und einem tiefen, schnellen Barrel-Bereich. Padang Padang befindet sich auf der Bukit-Halbinsel und hat auch eine zweite Zone – Padang Padang Right – die sanfter ist und für Anfänger oder Longboarder geeignet ist, was den Ort zu einem doppelten Juwel für Surfer unterschiedlicher Niveaus macht, je nach Peak. Padang Padang besteht aus 2 unterschiedlichen Surf-Punkten: dem Hauptpeak und dem inneren Break bei Padang Padang, der Baby Padang oder Padang Right genannt wird.
Local knowledge
Dies ist eine ernsthafte Welle – eine schwere Linkswelle, die über ein sehr flaches, scharfes Korallenriff röhrt, wobei der Take-off und der innere Bereich bei niedrigem Wasserstand kaum genug Wasser haben, sodass Stürze Kontakt mit dem Riff bedeuten und der Spot hat gebrochene Bretter, Riffwunden und Schlimmeres gesehen. Bei jedem Swell mit Größe gibt es eine starke Strömung, die durch den Kanal drückt, die man lesen muss, um sich richtig zu positionieren, und die Lineup wird voll mit Elite-Surfern (und einem Zirkus von Fotografen im Kanal), wenn es läuft. Seeigel lauern in den flachen Riffbereichen nahe dem Höhleneingang, also achte darauf, wo du trittst.
Parke oben in der Nähe der Warungs und zahle die kleine Eintrittsgebühr, dann gehe die lange Treppe durch die Klippe hinunter und quetsche dich durch die Felshöhle, die zum Strand führt. Vom Sand aus timst du dein Paddle-Out durch die Lücke in den Felsen auf der Innenseite zwischen den Sets – es ist viel einfacher, wenn der Kanal dich anschiebt – und benutze denselben Kanal, um zurückzukommen; an einem großen Tag sind die Felsen am Eingang gnadenlos. Oben gibt es viele Warungs und Verleihstationen für Erfrischungen und einen Aussichtspunkt, um die Lineup zu beobachten, bevor du dich entscheidest.
An kleineren Tagen funktioniert ein scharfes, gut geformtes Shortboard oder ein guter Performance-Thruster, um unter die Lippe zu kommen. Sobald die Welle kopfhoch und höher wird, bring ein gezogenes Step-Up oder ein richtiges Barrel-Board mit etwas zusätzlicher Paddelgeschwindigkeit für den steilen, saugenden Take-off mit – das ist keine Welle, bei der man unterpowered sein sollte.

✈️Getting there
Bali is the simplest surf destination in Indonesia to reach. Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) in Denpasar handles direct flights from across Asia and Australia, plus connections worldwide via Jakarta, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Doha and beyond. From Australia it's a short hop from Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Brisbane.
🛵Getting around
The default surfer transport is a scooter (110–150cc). It's cheap, easy to rent daily or monthly, and lets you slip down narrow Bukit lanes and beat the traffic. Bring or rent a board rack/strap. Wear a helmet, ride sober, and know that traffic is chaotic and Bali's road-accident rate is high — many travellers come unstuck here.

Bali has two seasons. The dry season runs roughly April to October — sunny, lower humidity, and the prime surf window for the south and west coasts, with consistent groundswell and clean morning offshore winds. This is peak season; expect crowds and book ahead.
