About Seger Reef
Seger Reef is just a 5-minute scooter ride from Kuta Lombok, and is one of the most accessible and consistent spots in the area. It offers a fast and technical right that breaks over reef, and occasionally a shorter left. The Seger wave is intense, demanding, and short, ideal for advancing intermediate or advanced surfers looking for fast maneuvers or barrels when the swell comes in lined up. The setting, with green hills, an observation tower, and pristine beaches all around, also makes it one of the most picturesque places to surf near Kuta.
Local knowledge
The reef here is shallow and sharp, especially on the inside section where the fast right closes out over dry coral at lower tides — expect cuts if you go down. There's a noticeable current that runs along the reef on bigger swells that can drag you toward the rocks, and the take-off zone gets tight and competitive when it's firing. Watch the tide closely, as low water turns the impact zone into a real hazard.
Easy access — it's a 5-minute scooter ride east from Kuta Lombok, with parking near the hill below the observation tower; locals usually charge a small fee to watch your bike. From the beach it's a short paddle out to the peak; time your entry and exit on the channel beside the reef rather than scrambling over the shallow coral. Grab a coconut at one of the warungs on the beach before or after your session.
Bring your regular shortboard for the punchy waist-to-head-high days when you want quick, vertical maneuvers. When the swell lines up overhead and the right gets fast and barreling, step up slightly to something with more drive and hold to make the steep, hollow sections off the take-off.
moderate — be polite, wait your turn.

Surfing in Lombok
Full Lombok surf guide →Lombok sits just east of Bali, separated by the deep Lombok Strait, and remains one of the most rewarding surf destinations in the Indonesian archipelago. It carries the spirit of an older Bali — quiet villages, jungle-clad hills, the towering Mount Rinjani volcano to the north, and a string of perfect bays and headlands along the south coast. The surf scene here is laid-back and adventure-driven rather than polished and packaged.
✈️Getting there
Fly into Lombok International Airport (LOP), near Praya in the centre-south of the island — a short 30–45 minute drive from Kuta Lombok and the main surf zone. There are frequent domestic connections from Jakarta, Surabaya and especially Bali (Denpasar), plus some regional international links.
🛵Getting around
A scooter is the default way to explore Lombok's surf coast — cheap to rent in Kuta and ideal for the dirt tracks leading to Mawi, Are Guling and the quieter bays. Bring board racks or a strap, and ride cautiously: roads range from smooth tarmac to potholed dirt, and rural traffic can be unpredictable.
🌤️Climate & season
Lombok has a tropical climate with two clear seasons. The dry season (roughly April–October) is prime time: cleaner conditions, lighter or offshore mornings, and the most consistent south-coast groundswell. This is when nearly every spot — Mawi, Gerupuk, Seger, Are Guling and Desert Point — fires.
