About Jimmy's
Jimmy's es un reef break de nivel avanzado a lo largo de la costa de Krui que ofrece olas potentes y de gran calidad para surfistas que saben lo que hacen. La ola se levanta con velocidad y fuerza, brindando oportunidades para drops empinados, barrels y maniobras de alto rendimiento en los días adecuados. Puede volverse poco profunda con la marea baja, por lo que es fundamental leer las condiciones antes de paddlear hacia afuera. Un spot relativamente sin aglomeraciones que recompensa a quienes están dispuestos a explorar más allá de los breaks principales.
Local knowledge
El arrecife es poco profundo, cortante e implacable, especialmente con la marea baja, cuando las caídas pueden provocar laceraciones graves o algo peor; hay erizos de mar en la plataforma del arrecife, por lo que se recomienda encarecidamente el uso de escarpines. Un canal de rip definido corre junto al break y, aunque es útil para paddlear hacia afuera, puede sorprender a los despistados con swells grandes. Presta atención a los barcos pesqueros que ocasionalmente atraviesan el canal, especialmente a primera hora de la mañana.
Jimmy's se encuentra a lo largo de la costa de Krui, en el suroeste de Sumatra (regencia de Pesisir Barat); desde el pueblo de Krui, dirígete hacia el sur por la carretera costera y busca el sendero trillado que baja a la playa, cerca del warung local que marca el lugar. Paddlea hacia afuera por el canal de rip en el lado norte del break: es la ruta más limpia y te mantiene alejado de la zona de impacto. Sal por el mismo canal; evita trepar por el arrecife, especialmente con la marea bajando.
En días estándar de 3 a 5 pies, una shortboard en tu rango de rendimiento habitual gestiona bien los drops empinados y las maniobras potentes; súbete a una rounded-pin o una small gun (6'4"–7'0") cuando el swell supere la altura de la cabeza y más, ya que la ola se lanza con fuerza y la velocidad es imprescindible. Deja la fish en casa: esta ola no es suave ni indulgente ningún día.

Where Bali trades on crowds and nightlife, Sumatra deals in space, jungle backdrops and waves that still feel earned. The swell window here is enormous: the same Indian Ocean groundswells that light up the rest of the archipelago hit Sumatra's exposed western flank first, raw and unfiltered.
✈️Getting there
Most surf trips funnel through Padang, the launch point for the Mentawais, Telos and Banyaks. Fly into Padang (Minangkabau Airport, PDG) via Jakarta — and Jakarta connects to Bali and international hubs like Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.
🛵Getting around
On the Sumatran mainland and on Nias, a scooter is the cheap, flexible standard — expect potholed roads, livestock and long, scenic distances between zones. Around Krui the coastal road links a string of spots over many kilometres, so a bike (or a hired car with driver for groups and boards) earns its keep.

Sumatra straddles the equator, so it's hot and humid year-round with water warm enough for boardshorts (a rashguard or 1mm top is plenty).
