About Medewi Beach
Medewi Beach es uno de los spots de surf más especiales de Bali por una razón muy clara: tiene el left más largo de la isla. Este tranquilo pueblo costero, ubicado en la costa oeste de Bali, ofrece un ritmo de vida relajado, olas suaves y un ambiente ideal para surfistas que quieren mejorar su técnica sin la presión de las multitudes de Canggu o Bukit. Es una ola amigable y fluida que permite carving y secciones largas y trabajables. La comunidad local es acogedora y el entorno es puro: arrozales, palmeras, pescadores y surf… nada más. Es perfecta para longboarders, surfistas de nivel intermedio y quienes están progresando.
Local knowledge
El principal peligro es el fondo: el point de Medewi es un arrecife de cantos rodados en lugar de arena, por lo que la zona de takeoff y el interior son resbaladizos y pueden torcer los tobillos — las botitas son una buena idea, y ser arrastrado hacia las rocas con marea baja es la forma más habitual de hacerse daño aquí. Es una ola tranquila, pero la corriente a lo largo del point te arrastra hacia el fondo de la línea y hacia afuera, así que no te excedas si estás cansado. También hay erizos de mar y algún que otro filo cortante entre las rocas, y la desembocadura del río cercana puede arrastrar escombros y agua turbia tras las lluvias.
Aparca cerca de los warungs y homestays en la parte alta del point — hay un pequeño aparcamiento y estacionamiento en la carretera, además de comida barata y café con vistas al lineup. Desde la playa, camina hasta el point sobre las rocas (con cuidado donde pisas) y busca la salida desde la plataforma de cantos rodados, o paddea desde el lado de la desembocadura del río y deja que la corriente te lleve hasta el pico. Sal por el mismo camino de vuelta sobre las rocas, idealmente aprovechando el intervalo entre series y no con marea completamente baja.
Este es un left suave, largo y deslizante, hecho para el paddling y el trim — un longboard o un mid-length es ideal para aprovechar al máximo las largas secciones, y un fish o una tabla corta de floatación funciona bien en los días de olas más pequeñas y débiles. Con un swell más grande y limpio, un shortboard de alto volumen o una fun-shape te permitirá hacer carving en las caras abiertas, pero rara vez necesitarás algo más potente que tu tabla de uso diario aquí.

✈️Getting there
Bali is the simplest surf destination in Indonesia to reach. Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) in Denpasar handles direct flights from across Asia and Australia, plus connections worldwide via Jakarta, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Doha and beyond. From Australia it's a short hop from Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Brisbane.
🛵Getting around
The default surfer transport is a scooter (110–150cc). It's cheap, easy to rent daily or monthly, and lets you slip down narrow Bukit lanes and beat the traffic. Bring or rent a board rack/strap. Wear a helmet, ride sober, and know that traffic is chaotic and Bali's road-accident rate is high — many travellers come unstuck here.

Bali has two seasons. The dry season runs roughly April to October — sunny, lower humidity, and the prime surf window for the south and west coasts, with consistent groundswell and clean morning offshore winds. This is peak season; expect crowds and book ahead.
