About Yoyos
Yoyos, também conhecido como Yo-Yo's, é um poderoso reef break localizado na costa oeste de Sumbawa, na região de Sekongkang. É um dos spots mais consistentes e um dos mais visitados por surfistas que vêm em busca de barrels intensos, paredes sólidas e zero multidões. A onda principal é uma direita que quebra sobre o recife e oferece seções ocas, rápidas e manobráveis. Funciona em várias marés e é uma das mais confiáveis da área, com sessões épicas desde o primeiro clarão até o pôr do sol.
Local knowledge
O recife de coral raso e afiado é o principal perigo aqui — a direita se desenrola e forma barrels sobre uma plataforma de recife viva que fica muito rasa na parte interna, então uma queda na seção final pode significar cortes no recife ou pior em maré baixa. Há uma corrente perceptível que corre ao longo do recife e pode te arrastar pela linha, e a zona de decolagem é exposta, então carrega uma verdadeira força em swells maiores. Ouriços-do-mar e algumas pedras secas de recife perto da entrada completam os perigos; leve botas de recife e um kit básico para cortes.
Yoyos fica na área de Sekongkang, em West Sumbawa, acessível por estrada até a costa, onde há alguns warungs básicos e simples losmen perto do ponto. Estacione no topo, caminhe pela trilha até a prainha/plataforma de recife, então cronometre sua entrada nas pedras ou na borda do recife — pule com a corrente na maré crescente e use o canal no ombro em vez de tentar remar direto de volta pela zona de impacto. Em dias maiores, planeje sua saída antes de ficar cansado; o recife interno é implacável quando você está exausto.
Uma shortboard de performance limpa funciona nos dias menores e divertidos, mas troque para uma de 6'4"–6'8" com tail redondo ou pin assim que a onda ficar acima da cabeça, para ter a potência de remada e a aderência para as seções íngremes, rápidas e de barrel. Em um swell sólido, leve algo com um pouco mais de comprimento e rocker para lidar com a queda e evitar ficar preso na parede.

Where Bali hums with traffic and beach clubs, Sumbawa offers dry savannah hills, empty white-sand bays, dusty roads and fishing villages where life still moves at its own pace.
✈️Getting there
Most surfers reach Sumbawa overland and by ferry from Bali or Lombok. The classic route is Bali to Lombok, then drive across Lombok to Kayangan and take the public ferry to Poto Tano in West Sumbawa (roughly 1.5–2 hours). From Poto Tano it's a 1–2 hour drive to the Maluk/Sekongkang surf zone.
🛵Getting around
Once on Sumbawa, a scooter is the cheapest and most flexible way to reach nearby breaks, and many surf camps in Maluk and Hu'u rent them with board racks. Roads on the main routes are decent, but expect potholes, livestock, dust in the dry season and stretches of rough or unsealed track to remote bays.

Sumbawa has a dry, hot tropical climate, drier and more arid than Bali, with two clear seasons. The dry season runs roughly April to October — this is prime surf time, with cleaner conditions, consistent groundswell and steady offshore-to-cross trade winds in the mornings.
