About Tropical Beach
A Tropical Beach, também chamada simplesmente de Tropicals, é um reef break de direita localizado perto da vila de Sekongkang, na região de Maluk, em West Sumbawa. Ao contrário dos spots mais exigentes da área, Tropicals oferece uma onda mais amigável e versátil que pode ser aproveitada por surfistas intermediários, assim como por aqueles que buscam manobras mais suaves. Com uma direita longa e divertida, é uma excelente opção para pranchas híbridas, twin fins, ou dias em que você quer fluir sem o estresse do barrel. Além disso, o spot fica bem em frente a um dos melhores resorts de surf da área, o que facilita a logística e cria uma atmosfera relaxante.
Local knowledge
Como a maioria das ondas de West Sumbawa, Tropicals quebra sobre um raso recife de coral, então uma queda na parte interna pode significar cortes e arranhões — botas são uma boa ideia em marés mais baixas. Há uma corrente moderada ao longo do recife que pode te arrastar para baixo do ponto, e ouriços-do-mar se escondem nas seções rochosas perto da entrada. É muito mais indulgente do que as lajes mais pesadas nas proximidades, mas o recife ainda exige respeito na maré baixa.
Acesso fácil — a onda fica bem em frente ao resort de surf perto de Sekongkang na área de Maluk/Sekongkang, então você pode estacionar no resort ou na praia e caminhar direto para baixo. Remar para fora pelo canal ao lado do recife para evitar ser arrastado pelo coral, e cronometre sua saída em uma onda ou use o mesmo canal em vez de tentar passar pelo recife interno. Warungs e o resort tornam a logística e a comida uma preocupação a menos.
Um spot perfeito para uma prancha híbrida, fish ou twin fin nos dias menores e mais suaves, quando você só quer fluir e fazer curvas na linha. Quando a onda aumenta, troque para uma shortboard regular ou uma pequena step-up para lidar com as seções mais íngremes e rápidas na saída.

Surfing in Sumbawa
Full Sumbawa surf guide →Sumbawa is Indonesia's rugged middle child, sitting east of Lombok and west of Flores, and it remains one of the archipelago's last genuine surf frontiers. Where Bali hums with traffic and beach clubs, Sumbawa offers dry savannah hills, empty white-sand bays, dusty roads and fishing villages where life still moves at its own pace.
✈️Getting there
Most surfers reach Sumbawa overland and by ferry from Bali or Lombok. The classic route is Bali to Lombok, then drive across Lombok to Kayangan and take the public ferry to Poto Tano in West Sumbawa (roughly 1.5–2 hours). From Poto Tano it's a 1–2 hour drive to the Maluk/Sekongkang surf zone.
🛵Getting around
Once on Sumbawa, a scooter is the cheapest and most flexible way to reach nearby breaks, and many surf camps in Maluk and Hu'u rent them with board racks. Roads on the main routes are decent, but expect potholes, livestock, dust in the dry season and stretches of rough or unsealed track to remote bays.

Sumbawa has a dry, hot tropical climate, drier and more arid than Bali, with two clear seasons. The dry season runs roughly April to October — this is prime surf time, with cleaner conditions, consistent groundswell and steady offshore-to-cross trade winds in the mornings.
