About HT’s (Hollow Trees / Lance’s Right)
HT's, apodo de Hollow Trees, es una derecha tubular y perfecta ubicada en la costa suroeste de la isla de Sipora, en las Mentawai. Su nombre original proviene del árbol hueco que alguna vez estuvo junto al arrecife y que, aunque ya no existe, dejó su nombre para siempre. Esta ola rompe sobre un arrecife muy definido y afilado, produciendo un take-off crítico seguido de un barrel profundo y limpio que forma como una máquina. Es ideal para surfistas experimentados y fotógrafos de barrel, ya que rara vez decepciona cuando hay tamaño.
Local knowledge
El arrecife aquí es poco profundo, afilado y muy vivo — la sección interior conocida como la "Surgeon's Table" es tristemente célebre por cortar a los surfistas, así que prepárate para heridas de coral y trae un buen botiquín. El take-off es crítico y no perdona; quedar atrapado en el interior o caer por encima de la ola en un set significa una paliza sobre un arrecife casi seco. Con buenas condiciones, el lineup se llena de barcos charter y experimentados cazadores de barrels, por lo que el drop-in y las colisiones resultantes son un riesgo real.
El acceso es exclusivamente en barco, ya sea en charter o a través de uno de los surf camps o resorts del pueblo de HT's en Sipora — la mayoría de los surfistas se alojan en el camp del punto o son dejados en el agua por un liveaboard fondeado en el canal. Paddea hacia fuera por el canal de aguas profundas que corre junto a la ola para mantenerte alejado del arrecife, y usa ese mismo canal para salir tras tu ola en lugar de dejarte arrastrar hacia el interior. Presta atención a la marea: con marea baja el arrecife interior queda expuesto y la entrada y salida se vuelven mucho más complicadas.
Trae un step-up limpio — un pintail de cola redonda o cuadrada de entre 6'2" y 6'6" con suficiente drive para hacer el take-off empinado y mantener una línea alta dentro del tubo. En días más grandes y rápidos, sube a una small gun para los drops tardíos, y reserva la shortboard para los swells más pequeños y con menos potencia.

This remote archipelago of more than 70 islands sits off the west coast of Sumatra, fully exposed to raw Indian Ocean swell, and it has earned its reputation as one of the most concentrated, high-quality wave zones on Earth.
✈️Getting there
All routes run through Padang, the port city in West Sumatra. Fly into Padang's Minangkabau International Airport (PDG), usually via Jakarta, or via Kuala Lumpur or Singapore on regional carriers.
🛵Getting around
The Mentawai are about boats, not roads. Once you arrive, your daily transport to the waves is by boat — either the liveaboard itself or the resort's tenders and speedboats running surfers out to the breaks.

The Mentawai are equatorial, hot and humid year-round, with water warm enough for boardshorts or a thin top (roughly 27–29°C). There's no real winter — just wetter and drier patterns.
