About Are Guling Right
Are Guling Right es la contraparte de mano derecha en el mismo break, otorgándole al spot una doble personalidad que mantiene el lineup entretenido. La ola de derecha tiende a ser un poco más perdonadora que la izquierda, con paredes más largas ideales para surfear de frontside y trabajar en la progresión. Los surfistas intermedios apreciarán la forma consistente y el hecho de que el crowd rara vez es denso tan lejos de Bali. Un spot excelente para acumular tiempo de calidad en el agua.
Local knowledge
El arrecife es poco profundo y afilado con marea baja — las caídas pueden provocar laceraciones graves, y los erizos de mar acechan entre las grietas, por lo que vale la pena considerar el uso de escarpines. Una corriente de canal moderada corre paralela al break y puede arrastrarte lejos de la salida si no prestas atención. El tráfico de embarcaciones pesqueras y ocasionales botes turísticos requiere estar alerta al momento de paddlear hacia afuera.
Are Guling se encuentra a lo largo de la costa suroeste de Lombok, cerca de Belongas Bay — toma la carretera costera hacia el sur desde Praya en dirección a Belongas y busca el sendero que baja a la playa cerca del pueblo pesquero local. Estaciona en el warung cerca de la arena y paddlea directo hacia afuera por el canal del lado izquierdo del break; sal por el mismo lugar para evitar ser empujado hacia la sección interior del arrecife.
Una shortboard versátil (6'2"–6'6") o un mid-length de performance se adaptan bien a las paredes largas y trabajables que ofrece este spot. En días con olas más pequeñas y débiles, una fish o una tabla híbrida te ayudará a generar velocidad en las secciones más planas; trae una step-up si entra un swell sólido y la ola empieza a lanzarse con más fuerza sobre el arrecife.

Full Lombok surf guide →Lombok sits just east of Bali, separated by the deep Lombok Strait, and remains one of the most rewarding surf destinations in the Indonesian archipelago. It carries the spirit of an older Bali — quiet villages, jungle-clad hills, the towering Mount Rinjani volcano to the north, and a string of perfect bays and headlands along the south coast. The surf scene here is laid-back and adventure-driven rather than polished and packaged.
✈️Getting there
Fly into Lombok International Airport (LOP), near Praya in the centre-south of the island — a short 30–45 minute drive from Kuta Lombok and the main surf zone. There are frequent domestic connections from Jakarta, Surabaya and especially Bali (Denpasar), plus some regional international links.
🛵Getting around
A scooter is the default way to explore Lombok's surf coast — cheap to rent in Kuta and ideal for the dirt tracks leading to Mawi, Are Guling and the quieter bays. Bring board racks or a strap, and ride cautiously: roads range from smooth tarmac to potholed dirt, and rural traffic can be unpredictable.
