About The Bubble

The Bubble hält, was der Name verspricht, mit einer Welle, die über das Riff schwillt und sich neigt, und spielerische, barrelnde Abschnitte wirft, die fortgeschrittene Surfer lieben werden. Es ist nicht die größte Welle in der Region, aber sie hat echten Charakter und kann einige überraschend hohle Momente produzieren. Ein spaßiger, ansprechender Break, der Geduld im Lineup belohnt.

Hazards

Die Welle bricht über ein flaches, scharfes Korallenriff, das bei Niedrigwasser gefährlich exponiert wird – Riffwunden sind häufig und Seeigel lauern in den Ritzen, daher sind Riff-Booties dringend empfohlen. Eine heimtückische seitliche Strömung verläuft entlang des Riffs, wenn ein Swell kommt, und kann unvorbereitete Surfer in den felsigen Bereich in der Nähe des Kanals ziehen; behalte jederzeit deine Position im Auge.

Getting there

The Bubble ist mit dem Boot von Sorake oder Lagundri Bay aus erreichbar – eine kurze Fahrt von 5–10 Minuten, die die meisten Gästehäuser und Surfcamps in der Gegend gegen eine kleine Gebühr organisieren können. Es gibt keinen sinnvollen Paddle-Out vom Ufer; warte, bis der Kanal sich ausrichtet, und paddel hindurch, um das Riff beim Einstieg zu vermeiden. Verlasse den Kanal wieder und winke deinem Boot zu oder bodysurfe vorsichtig durch die Schaumkronen auf den Sand, wenn die Bedingungen es erlauben.

Board

Ein vielseitiges Shortboard oder ein Fun-Shape im Bereich von 6'2"–6'8" passt gut zu The Bubble und gibt dir genug Auftrieb, um die spielerischen, schwellenden Abschnitte aufzufangen, während du locker genug bleibst, um in die hohlen Momente zu passen. Bei seltenen größeren Swells steig auf ein 6'10"–7'2" Step-Up mit etwas mehr Volumen, um die erhöhte Geschwindigkeit vom Riff zu bewältigen.

Off the west coast of North Sumatra, Nias is one of Indonesia's true surf landmarks — home to Lagundri Bay, the right-hand point at the island's southern tip that put the country on the world surf map back in the 1970s. It's a place of pilgrimage, where a single peeling wall over coral has drawn travelling surfers for decades.

✈️Getting there

Most surfers fly into Binaka Airport (GNS) at Gunungsitoli in the north of Nias, usually via Medan (Kualanamu, KNO) on a short domestic hop with Wings Air or similar. From Bali or Jakarta you'll connect through Medan.

🛵Getting around

At Lagundri Bay everything is walkable — the losmen sit right along the point, and you can paddle out from the steps. Many guests don't need transport at all once settled.

🌤️Climate & season

Nias has a tropical equatorial climate — warm and humid year-round, with water temperatures sitting around 27–29°C, so boardshorts and a rash guard are plenty (boots for the reef, not warmth).
